I live in Macedonia ( a country on the Balkan), you may have heard of it. Here we go swimming only in summer. There aren’t swimming pools where you can swim in winter. You need to be very rich for that. People here don’t have swimming pools home. We go swimming only in public pools or on lake, see… Most people go swimming very rare, even in summer. It’s like once a week or even less.
Now, here is what I wanted to ask. How often does an average person go swimming in USA? What percentage of people have swimming pools there?
Sorry for my bad English.
Thanks in advantage.
I forget to mention that I like swimming a lot. I am one of the best swimmers here. I will probably swim every day but that is not possible here.
academicjog, you said that 0.1 of 1% of Americans swim on clubs over the winter. Did you mean 0.1 or 1% of… Or you meant that 1 percentage of the Americans swim everyday during the summer but only 0.1% of this 1% swim everyday during the winter. But this is like 1 in 1000, that seems too little to me. Anyway, if you meant 0.1 or 1%, than can you please answer only this question: How often does an average person go swimming during the summer. You answered everything except this. Anyway, it’s a good answer but if you can, answer this also.
Thanks in ADVANCE.
Also, thanks about your comment about my English.

The English that you demonstrated was FAR superior to that of many American kids demonstrate on this board (which is horrendous). You took the time to spell correctly and make your sentences clear which, again, is sadly not typical of many of those who post on this board.

In the US, many communities and cities build pools for people in the community to use for a small fee. In some communities, the home owners of the community agree to pay a small amount each month or year to build and maintain a competitive size pool.

Most Americans do not swim during the Winter months. Those swimmers who are serious about the sport join swim clubs and pay about $100 per month which pays to rent and heat the pool and also pays to hire a professional coach. The cost can vary and I’ve heard of some swim clubs charging more and some charging less than that $100 figure. Perhaps 0.1 of 1% of Americans swim on clubs over the winter.

However, many cities, communities, or groups keep indoor pools open over the winter in the ‘cold’ states for those who swim for health to use. Those who swim for health will pay a monthly fee to, for example, a health club of $30 or more for use of the club. The health club likely includes weight lifting equipment, exercise classes, exercise machines, and a basketball court in addition to a pool.

I can’t tell you the percentage of people who swim for health.

In your question, you said you “live in Macedonia ( a country on the Balkan)”. Did you mean that “Macedonia which is a Balkan country”? Do you live in the country that is North of Greece?

Finally … just a little correction. The phrase is, “Thanks in ADVANCE” :^) … and, you’re totally welcome.

    MORE REPLY:
I meant 0.1 of 1% (0.001) which is about 300,000 are members on USA Swim Clubs. I don’t know, nor could I find a definitive answer to the frequency of Americans that swim during the summer months. I’ve read, on other occasions, that during the summer months nearly every person in America will swim at least once as swimming is the #1 participation sport in the US. Now, how many KNOW how to swim is a another unknown.

In the USA a lot of people have pools. And in the summer some people swim everyday. Me and my friends swim everyday year around on a club swim team.
